I'm Johanna, a Vancouver-based writer and editor looking for challenging projects, particularly in the health care and academic fields. I grew up here, studied science at UBC, and am now pursuing my real love: writing and communicating.

I have recently completed a contract with the College of Registered Nurses of BC as a Communications consultant, and am currently working on with the University of Calgary on a federal grant application.

I've been fortunate to work with some of the top scientists and researchers in the country -- most recently, I was part of the team that wrote the successful NeuroDevNet Network application, one of only three Networks of Centres of Excellence funded in 2009.

My recent publications include the White Paper on the Heart+Lung Institute inaugural summit, and the official report on the COPD 2009 Conference. You can read my blog post on the COPD report here.

My scientific and academic knowledge is nicely supplemented by my experience in Internet marketing. I spent three years with the Internet Marketing Center, so I'm extremely well-versed in how the Web is changing how we communicate. 

I've worked for the Certified General Accountants of Canada as communications consultant and also edited and wrote for their publication, CGA Magazine. I also spent three years as an editor in the Tokyo Bureau of Kyodo News, Japan's national News Agency -- I remain committed to keeping on top of international news and events, and their impact on research, politics, and day-to-day life in Canada.
