I spent the afternoon shopping, of all things, and was overwhelmed by the number of well-dressed, cash-in-hand people thronging Robson street and the fabulous boutique we spent two hours in. If there's a recession on, no one seems to have told them -- they are busily contributing to the economy, spending money and engaging in commerce. It's interesting, when contrasted to stories that are all over the news about entire sub-divisions in Arizona being abandoned by hapless mortgage owners in the US. Then I came across this article, an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times, written by a National Post correspondent, on the Canadian financial system and why it has remained [relatively] unscathed by the current economic downturn. Makes you think! On a lighter note, here is the funniest commercial I have seen in a long time. Tiger is back! And, not only is it very funny, it also does a stellar job of making golf look sexy and glamorous, promoting other Nike-sponsored athletes and showcasing Nike products. Well played!
